Irvine: Pursuit Suspect Escapes After Striking Police Vehicle

09.16.2023 | 9:30 PM | IRVINE – A suspect escaped on foot after striking a police vehicle during a vehicle pursuit, Saturday night.

The pursuit began shortly after officers responded to reports of a suspicious person in the backyard of an upscale home located in the 11200 block of Amberdale Drive around 9:30 PM.

Unconfirmed reports indicated officers tried to contact an individual in a white Porsche Panamera who fled the scene, striking a police vehicle in what police radio traffic described as an “assault with a deadly weapon” and prompting a pursuit.

The chase traversed the SR-55 and I-405 freeways before coming to an end at a parking garage in the 2600 block of Main Street, near Jamboree Road.

The driver of the vehicle, described as a black male with dreadlocks or cornrows, wearing a white sweatshirt and gold jewelry fled on foot and was not located despite an extensive search of the area, eyewitnesses reported.

One police vehicle had damage to a driver side door which was unable to stay closed as a result though no injuries to police or civilians were reported.

Police did not respond to requests for further information prior to publication of this story.
