Irvine: Packed Party Bus Erupts In Flames On New Years Eve

12.31.2019 | 4:05 PM | IRVINE – A party bus filled with passengers apparently heading to a New Year’s Eve celebration erupted in flames and snarled traffic on a busy freeway, Tuesday evening.

Authorities responded to reports of a bus engulfed in flames on the northbound I-405 Freeway just north of Culver Drive at around 4:05 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a party bus engulfed in flames blocking the HOV lane and began efforts to extinguish the fire.

The driver and approximately 24 passengers escaped the bus without injuries and ran across lanes to the right-hand shoulder.

The partygoers could be seen enjoying cans of Bud Light beer and taking selfies as firefighters battled the bus fire.

It took crews just over 20 minutes to contain the fire but the commotion resulted in heavy traffic in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
