08.23.2021 | 11:55 PM | IRVINE – Two people were rescued from a vehicle that overturned in a suspected DUI crash, late Monday night.
The rollover crash was reported on the northbound SR-241 Freeway about two miles north of the SR-133 Freeway around 11:55 PM.
Units arriving on scene discovered a green coupe on its roof with one person trapped inside and debris strewn across all lanes.
Another victim, who had been reported trapped while officers were en route, was located near a group of good samaritans that had stopped to assist.
Firefighters stabilized the overturned vehicle before rescuing the trapped occupant all in a matter of minutes.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals in moderate condition.
Authorities are seeking an evidentiary blood draw from the driver as they investigate the role of alcohol in the crash.
One of the vehicle’s occupants had a suspended license for a prior DUI conviction along with an outstanding arrest warrant but it was unclear if they were driving at the time of the crash, according to radio traffic.
All lanes of the northbound SR-241 Freeway were stopped for about 30 minutes while the incident unfolded.
