Irvine: Hydrant Sheared By Suspected DUI Driver

04.27.2024 | 11:16 PM | IRVINE – A suspected DUI driver slammed into a fire hydrant causing a geyser that shot about 70 feet into the air, Saturday night.

The collision occurred in a parking lot near the intersection of Main Street and Veneto around 11:16 PM.

The driver, who was later arrested on suspicion of DUI, was driving a silver sedan when he struck the bright yellow fire hydrant.

No injuries were reported and the flow of water to the hydrant was stopped by firefighters in about 15 minutes.
