Irvine: High-Speed Crash Kills Two, Leaves Vehicle Wrapped Around Pole

10.29.2019 | 9:48 PM | IRVINE – Two people were dead after a high-speed crash that left the vehicle they were riding in wrapped around a pole, Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision with two parties trapped on the mainline transition from the northbound I-5 Freeway to the northbound I-405 Freeway around 9:48 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a silver sedan wrapped around a pole supporting a freeway overpass sign.

Both the driver and a passenger were trapped inside the wreckage and pronounced deceased on scene.

Based on the damage from the crash authorities suspect the vehicle was traveling at high rate of speed prior to crashing.

One lane of the transition road was expected to be closed for several hours while firefighters worked with coroner officials to extricate the deceased.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
