Irvine: Firefighters Free Victims Trapped In Car After Crash Into Pole

07.26.2021 | 1:14 AM | IRVINE – Firefighters worked tirelessly to free two people who became trapped in their vehicle after it struck a pole, early Monday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision at the intersection of Barranca Parkway and Corporate Park around 1:14 AM.

When units arrived on scene they located a white 2012 Chevrolet Equinox that had departed the roadway before striking a traffic signal pole.

The impact of the crash left two people trapped inside and prompted firefighters to use the Jaws of Life and other power tools to effect a rescue.

It took about 25 minutes to extricate one of the passengers while the driver was freed in about 45 minutes.

A third passenger was able to exit the vehicle without any assistance from firefighters.

All three victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the crash.
