Irvine: DUI Suspect Arrested After Nearly Striking Emergency Personnel

05.15.2021 | 3:07 AM | IRVINE – A 20-year-old man was under arrest after driving through a freeway closure and nearly striking emergency personnel working to extinguish a vehicle fire, early Saturday morning.

The man was driving a blue 1995 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at high-speeds when he blew through a freeway closure on the northbound SR-133 Freeway just north of the I-5 Freeway around 3:07 AM.

Emergency personnel on the freeway were working to extinguish a vehicle fire after a two-car crash and had to jump out of the way of the speeding truck to avoid being hit.

An officer ahead of the crash quickly responded and stopped the truck before detaining its driver who was later identified by jail records as 20-year-old Roger Lawrence Horton.

After performing a series of field sobriety tests, officers placed Horton under arrest on suspicion of DUI.

During an exchange with officers it was revealed that Horton, who is under the legal drinking age, blew nearly twice the legal limit for an adult over the age of 21.

Horton believed he was on the SR-241 Freeway but was arrested on the SR-133 Freeway.
