Irvine: Driver Missing After Fiery Two-Car Crash

05.15.2021 | 2:48 AM | IRVINE – The driver of a vehicle involved in a fiery two-car crash was missing, early Saturday morning.

Callers reported the two-car crash with one vehicle engulfed in fire on the northbound SR-133 Freeway just south of Irvine Boulevard around 2:48 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a red 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 with front-end damage on the right shoulder engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the car fire in about 10 minutes the the driver of the Mercedes missing from the scene and could not be immediately located.

A second vehicle, a tan Chevrolet Malibu with rear-end damage, was located in the center divider just north of the Mercedes with two occupants inside. Both occupants from the Chevrolet were evaluated for injuries but refused medical treatment.

While working to extinguish the fire a suspected DUI driver in a blue Chevrolet Silverado ran a freeway closure at high-speeds and nearly struck emergency personnel. Officers later caught up to the driver and placed him under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
