Irvine: Driver Crashes Into Hydrant Causing Massive Geyser

03.15.2023 | 12:19 AM | IRVINE – A driver crashed into a fire hydrant causing a massive geyser, early Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported near the intersection of Irvine Center Drive and Hearthstone when a white Ford Edge lost control and struck a fire hydrant around 12:19 AM.

Units arriving on scene located an approximately 70-foot geyser resulting from the sheared hydrant and worked for nearly 30 minutes to shut off the flow of water.

No injuries were reported in the crash and city officials were dispatched to assist in replacing the hydrant.

Slick results resulting from heavy rain are believed to have played a role in the collision.
