04.19.2025 | 12:34 AM | Irvine – A person was killed when their vehicle collided with a light pole, early Saturday morning.
The collision was reported on Irvine Center Drive near Protocol around 12:34 AM when a black SUV collided with a light pole.
Units responding to the collision found the black SUV with major damage and its driver pinned in the wreckage.
Firefighters began to free the trapped driver but later determined they had died.
It appears the SUV was traveling northbound on Irvine Center Drive when it departed the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a light pole. The SUV came to rest on the sidewalk while the light pole collapsed in lanes.
Both directions of Irvine Center Drive were closed between Protocol and Lake Forest Drive for several hours while authorities investigated the deadly collision.
