Huntington Beach: Motorcycle Rider Dies After Being Struck By Suspected DUI Driver

06.04.2021 | 11:00 AM | HUNTINGTON BEACH – A motorcyclist succumbed to injuries she sustained as a result of a crash with a suspected DUI driver, Friday morning.

The crash occurred around 5:58 PM on Monday, May 31st at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Liberty Drive when a white 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe struck a black 1975 Honda motorcycle.

Preliminary reports indicate both vehicles were traveling southbound on Beach Boulevard when the motorcycle slowed for a traffic signal. The driver of the Chevrolet failed to yield and collided with the rear of the Honda.

The motorcyclist, later identified as 26-year-old Chanel Garcia, of Newport Beach, was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. She died Friday morning as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet remained on scene but was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was identified as 26-year-old Christopher Johnstone of Costa Mesa.
