Huntington Beach: Driver Freed From Classic Mustang Wrapped Around Pole

06.12.2026 | 11:41 PM | HUNTINGTON BEACH – The driver of a classic Mustang had to be rescued by firefighters using the heavy rescue tools after the vehicle became wrapped around a light pole following a traffic collision, late Friday night.

The collision occurred just before midnight at McFadden Avenue and Container Lane, when the Mustang struck a light pole with enough force to wrap the vehicle around it.

The impact left the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle pinned underneath the steering wheel and dashboard, according to radio reports.

Fire department personnel responded to the scene and initiated what radio reports described as a “complex” extrication, deploying the heavy rescue tools to free the trapped driver.

The driver was eventually freed from the wreckage in about 30 minutes and transported to a nearby hospital with reportedly serious injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol may have been involved.

The severity of the damage to the Mustang suggests speed may have been a contributing factor, though an official cause has not been determined.
