10.23.2025 | 9:30 PM | HUNTINGTON BEACH – A Cessna 177B performed a successful emergency landing on a beach after experiencing engine trouble, Thursday night.
The 1973 Cessna 177B departed the Santa Barbara Airport en route to John Wayne Airport around 8:30 PM.
About an hour after departure, around 9:30 PM, the pilot of the Cessna radioed indicating the aircraft was experiencing engine troubles and was unable to land at John Wayne Airport.
Huntington Beach Police Department’s helicopter, HB-1, overheard the radio traffic and maintained visual of the Cessna as it performed an emergency landing on a portion of the beach between Huntington Beach Lifeguard towers 11 and 13 around 9:30 PM.
The landing was uneventful and both the pilot and passenger, along with any other bystanders on the beach, were uninjured.
Specifics regarding the engine troubles experienced by the Cessna were not immediately available but the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the incident.
