Garden Grove: Wild Pursuit Ends With Suspect Crashing

10.29.2021 | 12:40 AM | GARDEN GROVE – A carjacking suspect was arrested after a wild pursuit that involved wrong-way driving, shots being fired, and eventually a crash, early Friday morning.

The pursuit involving Westminster police and a carjacking suspect in a white Chevrolet Suburban was reported on city streets near the SR-22 Freeway around 12:40 AM.

The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 110 MPH and entered the SR-22 Freeway going wrong-way,

At one pointed during the pursuit shots were fired as the suspect continued to flee along the northbound I-405 Freeway.

The chase later came to an end when the suspect crashed in the 7100 block of Garden Grove Boulevard and police used a taser while to subdue the man as he attempted to to flee on foot.

It was unclear if anyone was struck by the gunfire, or who discharged their weapons, but firefighter paramedics assessed the male suspect on before transporting him to an area hospital in unknown condition.

Some reports from the scene indicate the suspect rammed a police cruiser prompting the officer-involved shooting however the accuracy of that information could not immediately be confirmed.

Police are working to gather additional information regarding the wild pursuit but initial reports indicate there is no outstanding threat to the community.
