Garden Grove: One Dead, Another Critically Injured Following Pursuit Crash

05.25.2024 | 9:48 PM | GARDEN GROVE – One person was killed and another seriously injured following a pursuit crash that netted the arrest of a juvenile, Saturday night.

The pursuit began when officers spotted a suspected stolen vehicle near Taft Street and Garden Grove Boulevard around 9:45 PM.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the teenage driver fled, eventually colliding with three vehicles near the intersection of Taft Street and Trask Avenue just minutes later.

The force of the collision left two people trapped in one vehicle. Both victims had to be extricated by firefighters before being rushed to nearby trauma centers.

Of the two one victim, identified as 34-year-old Kevin Luu, of Garden Grove, succumbed to their injuries. The second victim remained in critical condition.

Both occupants of the stolen vehicle fled on foot after the collision. The teenage driver was apprehended and booked into Juvenile Hall after being treated for minor injuries.

The stolen vehicle’s passenger was able to elude officers.

Police suspected drugs or alcohol played a factor in the deadly pursuit crash.
