Garden Grove: Man Released After Fatally Shooting His Brother-In-Law Inside Home

01.01.2021 | 4:30 AM | GARDEN GROVE – A man who shot and killed his brother-in-law while intervening in a physical altercation was released pending further investigation, police said Saturday morning.

The December 31 shooting took place inside an apartment located in the 12300 block of Trask Avenue around 3:42 PM.

When officers arrived on scene they located a 26-year-old male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper torso.

The victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, was rushed to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The man who shot him, 24-year-old Heriberto Martinez, of Garden Grove, was interviewed by police who learned that Martinez had intervened in a physical dispute between his sister and her husband.

Police, who described Martinez as a suspect, said he was released pending further investigation.
