Garden Grove: Man Found Shot In Head, Suspect Arrested Following High-Speed Pursuit

05.07.2022 | 7:00 PM | GARDEN GROVE – A suspect who authorities believe shot a man in the head was arrested following a high-speed pursuit in Riverside County, police announced Saturday.

The investigation began to develop shortly after officers responding to reports of a shooting located a man that had been shot in his head inside a home in the 5300 block of Santa Barbara Avenue around 2:46 AM.

Medics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Officers quickly determined that the suspected shooter, 51-year-old Ali Samoodi, of Anaheim, had fled shortly after the in a U-Haul rental truck.

Samoodi was quickly located in the city of Menifee by detectives tracking the whereabouts of the rental truck.

Authorities tried to perform a traffic stop no the vehicle but Samoodi fled, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit that spanned over 30 miles.

The chase came to an end near the 10 Freeway and Cedar Avenue following multiple collisions that ultimately disabled the rental vehicle.

Still undeterred, Samoodi refused to exist the vehicle prompting a brief standoff with a Riverside County SWAT team who ultimately detained him without further incident.

Samoodi was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of attempted murder.

The identity of the shooting victim was not released by authorities.
