11.21.2021 | 8:01 PM | GARDEN GROVE – A fire at a residential rehab facility left one person dead and another injured, Sunday night.
The fire was reported at a home in the 13000 block of Jefferson Street, near Garden Grove Boulevard, shortly after 8:00 PM.
Crews arriving on scene located a two-story home and learned that at people were possibly trapped in an upstairs room.
Firefighters rushed into the home to rescue the trapped occupant while working to douse the flames.
The fire was contained to a upstairs bedroom but, despite the efforts of first responders, the victim inside was later pronounced deceased on scene.
A second victim sustained injuries while exiting the burning home and was treated on scene before being transported to an area hospital.
As many as 12 people from the home were displaced as a result of the fire and were being assisted by the Southern California Red Cross.
Officials say smoke detectors were not present or not working when inside the home when the fire broke out.
The home is believed to be a residential rehabilitation facility for individuals with substance abuse issues.
