Garden Grove: Driver Killed After Crashing Into Big Rig Stopped In Lanes

03.31.2023 | 11:53 PM | GARDEN GROVE – The driver of a Honda died after plowing into a big rig that stopped in lanes on a freeway, late Friday night.

The crash was reported on the westbound SR-22 Freeway, east of Valley View, when a grey Honda sedan collided with a big rig that was stopped in lanes around 11:53 PM.

The impact of the crash left the Honda driver trapped in the wreckage.

Firefighters worked to free the trapped driver using the Jaws of Life but ultimately pronounced him deceased on scene.

The driver of the big rig placed reflective triangles behind his big rig shortly before the collision after his truck apparently became disabled in the #3 lane.

Preliminary reports indicate that CHP did not receive any reports that the big rig was stopped in lanes until the deadly collision occurred.

The big rig driver was uninjured and appeared to be cooperating with law enforcement.

The cause of the deadly collision remains under investigation.
