Foothill Ranch: Deputy-Involved Shooting Inside Walmart Injures Theft Suspect

01.19.2022 | 9:44 PM | FOOTHILL RANCH – A deputy-involved shooting inside a Walmart left an armed theft suspect injured and two other suspects were later detained, Wednesday night.

Deputies responded to the Walmart located in the 26500 block of Towne Center Drive, near Alton Parkway, regarding a theft around 9:44 PM.

When deputies arrived on scene witnesses say they contacted a male suspect and attempted to detain him. A struggle ensued and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The male suspect, who was in possession of both a knife and firearm, was struck by gunfire and treated on scene before being rushed to an area hospital by firefighter paramedics. His condition was not immediately known as he remained in surgery.

The other suspects, a male and female, fled in a white 2021 Toyota Sienna. A deputy was able to record the license plates on the Toyota and it was later tracked to Midway City.

Both subjects matching the description of the individuals that fled after the shooting were located in the vehicle and detained pending further investigation.

A handgun and knife belonging to the wounded suspect were recovered at the scene.
