Costa Mesa: Man Shot To Death, Suspect Arrested

07.03.2023 | 10:45 PM | COSTA MESA – One person was Killed in a shooting and a suspect was taken into custody in connection with the homicide, Monday night.

Police responded to reports of a gunshots heard in the 2000 block of Pomona Avenue, near Sterling Avenue, around 10:45 PM.

When officers arrived on scene they located a 38-year-old man, later identified as Jonathan Ray Valdez, of Costa Mesa, down on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to OC Global Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Just hours after the deadly shooting police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Ryan Rosas, of Costa Mesa, in connection with the homicide. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered.

Though details regarding the circumstances of the shooting were not released, police said the incident was isolated and that there was no threat to public safety.
