Costa Mesa: Police Searching For Fatal Hit & Run Driver

01.20.2022 | 11:32 PM | COSTA MESA – Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a man in a wheelchair, late Thursday night.

Officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash involving a victim in a wheelchair near the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way around 11:32 PM.

When units arrived they found a 50-year-old male down near a wheelchair with significant injuries.

Firefighter paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver that struck the man fled the scene in what authorities believe may be a black 2009-2010 Toyota Highlander with front-end damage.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash, including anyone who may have observed the suspect vehicle or has surveillance video of the area, is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Luis Gomez by calling (714) 754-5264.
