Costa Mesa: Pedestrian Struck & Killed By Vehicle

11.25.2021 | 2:33 AM | COSTA MESA – A deadly crash involving a 24-year-old pedestrian was under investigation, early Thursday morning.

The traffic collision involving a pedestrian was reported near the intersection of Newport Boulevard and East 17th Street around 2:30 AM.

When units arrived on scene they located a pedestrian down in the northbound lanes with major injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Firefighter paramedics attempted to revive the downed pedestrian, identified only as a 24-year-old male, but later pronounced them deceased on scene.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian, a brown 2011 Subaru Outback, sustained major front-end damage and was seen parked about a block away near a strip mall in the 1600 block of Newport Boulevard.

The driver of the Subaru, who was sober, remained on scene and was cooperating with law enforcement. No arrests were made.

All northbound lanes of Newport Boulevard remain closed between 16th and 17th streets until further notice while authorities investigate.
