12.15.2018 | 1:05 AM | COSTA MESA – Two people were hospitalized after being cut free from their vehicles after a freeway crash, early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into the center divider and was facing wrong-way in lanes on the northbound I-405 just south of Fairview Road.
While responding, additional calls came in reporting that a second vehicle had collided with the first car resulting in a major injury accident.
Units arriving on scene located the two-car crash and discovered the drivers of both cars were trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighter paramedics arriving on scene began efforts to extricate both patients using the jaws of life and other power tools.
Within 20 minutes both patients were cut free from their vehicles and transported to area hospitals.
One victim, described as a female in her 20s, suffered from serious trauma to her leg.
The potential role of drugs, alcohol, or speed is under investigation.
