Anaheim: Spike Strips Used To Stop Pursuit Of Wrong-Way Driver

11.21.2021 | 2:43 AM | ANAHEIM – Spike strips were deployed to stop a wrong-way driver who fled from officers on two busy freeways, early Sunday morning.

The incident began to unfold around 2:43 AM when officers received calls of a vehicle driving northbound in southbound lanes of the SR-55 Freeway near MacArthur Boulevard.

Officers located the vehicle, a white 2020 Honda Insight, being driven by a female adult in the carpool lane and activated their lights and siren while pacing it from northbound lanes.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and officers chased her to the end of the SR-55 Freeway where she continued wrong-way and transitioned eastbound in westbound lanes of the SR-91 Freeway.

Spike strips were successfully deployed deflating both front tires on the Honda and forcing it to a stop on the westbound SR-91 Freeway just west of Weir Canyon Road around 3:05 AM.

After surrounding the vehicle officers detained the female driver and transported her to a nearby weigh station where she was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
