Anaheim: Officer Injured After Suspected DUI Driver Plows Intro Patrol Vehicle

07.24.2021 | 2:16 AM | ANAHEIM – Two people including a California Highway Patrol officer were injured after a suspected DUI driver crashed into a patrol vehicle, early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred around 2:16 AM on the southbound I-5 Freeway just north of State College Boulevard when a grey 2018 Lexus IS rear-ended a Dodge Charger patrol vehicle that was stopped in a freeway closure.

The impact of the crash forced the patrol vehicle into a white 2012 Toyota RAV4, injuring an officer that was sitting inside.

Firefighter paramedics treated and transported two people from the crash including the officer and a female passenger from the Lexus.

Officers administered field sobriety tests on the driver of the Lexus before placing him under arrest on suspicion of DUI.

The collision occurred in the midst of a hit-and-run investigation involving a white Honda Civic that was struck by a grey 2016 Nissan Altima that fled.
