Anaheim: Child Dies After Being Locked In Hot Car, Mother Arrested

09.06.2024 | 4:20 PM | ANAHEIM – A tragic incident in Anaheim has led to the arrest of a mother following the death of her 3-year-old daughter. Sandra Hernandez, 41, was taken into custody after her child was found unconscious in an overheated car.

On Friday, September 6th, around 4:20 p.m., Anaheim Police and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a medical emergency in the 1300 block of North Fashion Lane. They discovered the young girl and an unconscious Hernandez inside a parked white Ford Expedition. Despite life-saving efforts, the child passed away at the hospital, with heat stroke suspected as the cause.

The outside temperature at the time was a scorching 104°F. The investigation revealed empty alcohol bottles inside the vehicle. Hernandez, after receiving medical clearance, was arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect.
